Only about 28% of Americans support TikTok ban – Savanta poll

Only about 28% of Americans support the ban on TikTok. This is according to a survey by Savanta, Gizmodo reports.

At the same time, respondents believe it is possible to find a way around the TikTok ban. Approximately 60% of respondents said that “their friends” would continue to use the social network if it were banned.

Americans also say that they would likely increase their use of other video-oriented networks such as YouTube (34%) and Instagram (30%) if they did not have access to TikTok.

Some 69% of Americans said that TikTok and other social media platforms should do more to protect their personal data, particularly from foreign governments.

In addition, 59% of respondents said that social media should do more “to combat harmful statements and images on their platforms.” Some 46% said they were concerned about the idea that social media could influence election results.

The survey was conducted among 2,000 Americans aged 18 and older from March 19-25. On March 13, the House of Representatives passed a bill “On Protecting Americans from Programs Controlled by Foreign Adversaries.”

According to the document, the Chinese company ByteDance has to sell TikTok to a company that is not affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party, or the app will be blocked in the United States. The bill has now been sent to the Senate.
