The emergence of the iPhone can be linked to the disappearance of smartphones with physical keyboards. It is ironic that some accessories for Apple smartphones are aimed at bringing back such keyboards. And now there is another such option – Clicks Creator Keyboard.
This is reported by TheVerge.
Clicks was founded by YouTubers MrMobile (Michael Fisher) and CrackBerry Kevin (Kevin Michaluk). The development team includes former specialists from Apple, BlackBerry, and Google.
The idea itself is not new. Clicks is a case for the iPhone 14 Pro, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max with a physical keyboard on the bottom. The connection is made via Lightning or USB-C, and the case also has an external output for charging the device. There is no built-in battery. The manufacturer currently offers two colors: BumbleBee (yellow) and London Sky (dark gray).
Other interesting features: the keys are backlit, there is support for hotkey combinations familiar to macOS users, and the case will not interfere with induction charging. Later, the company plans to release an app that should add functionality to the experience.
Depending on the final model, the size of the case ranges from 188.46×74×10.75 to 204.1×80.1×11.05 mm, and the weight is 62 and 65 grams. Key travel in all cases is 0.2 mm. Materials include silicone (main body), “vegan leather” (small backing), and polycarbonate (keyboard).
Of course, such an accessory is not an ideal solution. It significantly increases the overall dimensions of the device, and confident use will require time to adapt. Also, currently, only Lightning-port cases allow data transfer and CarPlay operation via a wired connection in the car, while USB-C versions will only charge the device.
However, those who want to use a smartphone with a physical keyboard that does not take up a large part of the screen can still add a new option. The Clicks version for the iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro costs $139 (available from February 1 and mid-March, respectively), and the larger version for the iPhone 15 Pro Max costs $159 (expected in early spring).
