On the occasion of the centennial anniversary, which the studio celebrates on October 16, Disney Animation creators have created a short cartoon «Once Upon a Studio. It features 543 characters from over 85 feature and short films, writes Variety.

The cartoon was directed by Dan Abraham and Trent Corry. According to the plan, the events take place at the end of the working day at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.

The studio becomes a magical place when Bernie Mattinson leaves. He worked here for 70 years on films such as The Lady and the Tramp (1955) and One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961). Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse come out of the photo and call their friends to gather for an official portrait on the occasion of the studio’s 100th anniversary.

We worked on the project for months. And this is understandable, because it was necessary to “revive” such characters as Snow White, Genie, Ariel, Belle, Peter Pan, and Wendy. In total, 80% of the characters were hand-drawn, and the rest were recreated on a computer. The directors wanted each character to look as if they had just stepped off the screen.

The cartoon has several features. For example, at least 40 actors who worked on the original films took part in its voice acting. These include Jodie Benson (Ariel), Jeremy Irons (Scar), Idina Menzel (Elsa), and Kristen Bell (Anna).

Another feature is the “return” of the late Robin Williams’ Genie. No artificial intelligence was used to recreate him. Instead, the cartoon used excerpts from the original recordings. In total, Once Upon a Studio lasts about 9 minutes.
