In California, a woman was hit by a Cruise robot taxi after being hit by an unknown car with a driver

In California, the unmanned taxi Cruise hit a pedestrian who had been hit by a human-driven car before. TechCrunch writes about the incident.

The accident occurred on October 2 and injured a woman. According to video footage, the car and driver fled the scene after the accident. Robotaxi also ran over a woman lying on the road. However, before that, the autonomous car managed to “aggressively brake” to minimize the impact.

According to the police, the victim ended up stuck under the unmanned vehicle. Law enforcement agencies are now investigating the case.

“The autonomous vehicle remained on scene and did not have an occupant at the time of the collision. The operator of the autonomous vehicle is cooperating with the investigation. We believe that another vehicle that was not an autonomous vehicle may have been initially involved in the collision, but the vehicle or driver were not present at the scene during our investigation,” the police said in a statement.

Cruise also confirmed the information about the unknown driver who hit the robotaxi in front of it.

“The initial impact was severe and launched the pedestrian directly in front of the AV. The AV then braked aggressively to minimize the impact. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene…” the company says in a statement.

In the summer, it became known that Cruise would temporarily reduce the number of autonomous cars in San Francisco while investigators investigate incidents involving its fleet.
