Nissan Juke vs. Jeep Avenger: a duel test about DESIGN and more

Nissan Juke vs. Jeep Avenger: a duel test about DESIGN and more
0

The reason for this material was the very ambitious name of the test car - we are talking about the Nissan Juke N-Design. But recently another compact crossover appeared, which also places a strong emphasis on design - we are talking about the Jeep Avenger. Which of them is better and more interesting in design? And if we talk not only about design, but also about more "earthly" things? What about the interior space, trunk size, fuel consumption, cost of cars in different trim levels? With this material I will try to start the format of test duels between similar competing cars.

Both crossovers – Nissan Juke and Jeep Avenger – have already been the heroes of separate detailed reviews. Therefore, I will not stop and repeat about the equipment, equipment, competitors. Instead, I propose to focus on five main points-rounds (which can arbitrarily change depending on the duelists and their characteristics). For each round, the car can receive a score; the total number of points will be the result of the duel.

Round one: design and dimensions

It is generally accepted to start with a description of the appearance, and in this case – in general! After all, both models place special emphasis on design, but implement it differently. The Nissan Juke car once again tries to attract attention with its front part with round headlights and “points” of turn signals, as well as a noticeably tilted rear window and a slightly protruding trunk lid – like that coupe-like crossover. The N - Design equipment is additionally distinguished by original wheel rims and silver overlays, which are successfully combined with the gray (now fashionable) body color.

Instead, the Jeep Avenger follows more traditional SUV shapes: almost horizontal hood and sill lines, almost vertical trunk lid, massive wheel arches. Plus, a distinctive front end in the style of larger Jeep models: seven-element false radiator grille and recessed headlights. I must definitely mention the wonderful X-shaped lights and numerous interesting secret details. Finally, both cars offer hidden door handles and allow you to choose a two-tone body paint with a contrasting black roof.

This round ends with a 1:1 score and the general conclusion that each of the cars demonstrates an interesting design, just does it in its own way. By the way: the rectangular-linear design of the Jeep Avenger gives it a visual massiveness, due to which it is perceived at the level of the Nissan Juke; but this is not so! The Nissan Juke crossover has a length of 4.21 meters and a wheelbase of 2.64 meters; when the Jeep Avenger offers a length of 4.08 meters and a wheelbase of 2.56 meters.

Round two: interior and trim

I’ll say it right away – the Nissan Juke wins here, literally tearing its rival to shreds. The front panel is covered with a pleasant Alcantara coating, the “monoform” seats seem to have come to us from the world of sports cars, a silver ring with backlighting is located around the automatic transmission lever, and a pair of 12.3-inch displays provide such a high-quality and clear picture that they hint at cars of a class higher (in principle, that’s how it is). At the same time, the Nissan Juke crossover does not forget about practicality and convenience: I’m talking about a separate “climate” unit and a steering wheel with elegant spokes and a thin rim, which is so pleasant to hold in your hands. Of the minuses, only the too deep position of this climate control unit and the numerous black-glossy decor (front panel, center console, door cards), which “loves” to collect fingerprints and scratches.

The Jeep Avenger also tries to attract attention: here are the bright lines of the interior lighting, here are the transmission and climate control buttons, I will definitely note the shelf in front of the passenger and a deep box with a magnetic lid. However, wherever your hand touches, you will find ordinary hard plastic under your fingers. The seats have a rather simple and solid leather trim, and not of the highest quality. The displays lose in size and image quality; however, the digital instrument panel offers several cool design options. But in general: to compete with the Nissan Juke in terms of design invention and quality of interior decoration, you need to take another SMR model - for example, the Peugeot 2008.

The Jeep Avenger crossover demonstrates a very interesting, original, cool interior; but the Nissan Juke adds to this list even higher-quality finishing materials and beautiful displays. That is why in this round we have a 1:0 victory in favor of the Nissan Juke. As for the rear seats and trunk, for cars of class B - SUVs, the mere fact of their presence is already good. Although stop! And let's talk in more detail about practicality…

Round three: convenience and practicality

In order not to be unfounded in the style of “here the interior is tighter, but here it is more spacious”, I simply took a tape measure and took a few measurements. So: the Nissan Juke crossover offers a front seat with a cushion length of about 52 cm; then the distance to the accelerator pedal is 44-67 cm (depending on the settings of the seat position fore-aft). The maximum clearance to the ceiling on the front seat is 102 cm (the seat is lowered as low as possible, the backrest is set at an angle of about 110 degrees). Now let's look at the second row of seats. We have a clearance from the back of the rear sofa to the back of the front seat of 57-83 cm, the space reserve to the ceiling is about 90 cm. Finally, I suggest you look into the 422-liter trunk of the Nissan Juke: the width of the trunk between the walls is 101 cm, the protrusions-stops for the floor panel take up 3.5 cm each on the right/left. The depth of the trunk is 80 cm; If the rear row of seats is folded, you can transport items up to 131 cm long (along the length of the folded back of the rear row) or approximately 152 cm (along the length up to the stop in the back of the front passenger seat, which is installed in the middle position).

Now similar measurements for the Jeep Avenger. It all starts with the driver's seat, which has a cushion length of about 50 cm; then continues with the distance to the accelerator pedal at 43-71 cm (depending on the settings of the seat position forward-backward); that is, the Jeep Avenger crossover offers a greater range of driver's seat adjustment. At the same time, it provides a smaller height gap: we have about 95 cm from the cushion to the ceiling (the seat is lowered as low as possible, the backrest is set at an angle of about 110 degrees). Please note that the test car had a panoramic roof and I measured the height to the ceiling, not to the roof curtain; if the car has a regular roof, then it is possible that the height margin will be a few centimeters larger. Now a few words about the second row of seats. We have a gap from the back of the rear sofa to the back of the front seat of 48-73 cm; with the front seat pushed back as far as possible, there is no room for the knees of the rear passengers at all. At the same time: the clearance to the ceiling is about 95 cm - this is how the usual roof shape works on the feeling of space in the cabin. Finally, I suggest you take a look at the 380-liter trunk of the Jeep Avenger: the trunk width between the walls is 100 cm, the protrusions-stops for the floor panel take up 5.5 cm each on the right/left. The trunk depth is 70 cm; with the rear row of seats folded, you can transport a length of up to 123 cm (along the length of the folded back of the rear row) or about 145 cm (along the length to the stop in the back of the front passenger seat, which is installed in the middle position).

Let there be a draw in this round – we fix the score 1:1 between the cars. But this result is achieved in different ways. The Nissan Juke crossover takes care of the rear passengers and leaves them some legroom for any driver's seat settings, plus it wins with a trunk. In contrast, the Jeep Avenger offers greater seat adjustment ranges in the front and more headroom in the back. Although if you need maximum practicality, then you should already look at the Suzuki S - Cross or Skoda Kamiq; however, they are clearly not about design…

Round Four: Suspension and Engine

I admit that both cars are far from my personal understanding of the ideal. For example, the Nissan Juke turns out to be somewhat harsh, its suspension reacts sharply to any pits and irregularities, it can jump backwards on a speed bump. Although such chassis settings also mean fairly clear handling, minimal roll in corners, plus quick reactions to steering wheel turns. So, the Nissan Juke is clearly a “child of the asphalt”, it is a crossover for the city. A small 1-liter engine is enough for accelerations at the pace of the general flow (it even demonstrates a better acceleration of 0-100 km/h than promised by the passport), but its most important advantage is economy – a stable 7.5-8 liters in the city, the minimums were about 6.2 liters. On the highway at a speed of 100 km/h, both cars consume the same amount of fuel – about 5 liters per 100 km of the road. In the case of the Nissan Juke, three driving modes are provided, but in reality there are only two: I advise you to forget about eco mode right away, only normal (which behaves like eco mode) and sports (which is pleasantly-vigorously-normal) remain.

The Jeep Avenger crossover justifies its affiliation with the brand with a rather energy-intensive suspension: more travel – fewer potholes! The car bounces, sways and pecks, but at this time its energy-intensive suspension works out the next pothole without a hard jolt for the driver and passengers. True, all this ends with considerable rolls; there is also a steering wheel with an incomprehensible spring force – there is no Nissan steering clarity here. But there is comparable economy (an average of 7.5 liters in the city, the minimums were 5.8 liters), more driving modes (including specific settings for off-road), as well as slightly improved dynamics. So, the 0-100 km/h test on a similar stretch of road, with a difference of three days and approximately similar weather conditions, and also on winter tires, is 0.4 seconds faster. By the way, during maximum dynamic acceleration, the Jeep Avenger allows itself to make noise up to a volume level of 72 dB, while the Nissan Juke is a little quieter, but still quieter – the maximum was 70 dB (the sound volume was measured using a Benetech GM 1352 device, located between the front seats at the level of the driver's and front passenger's heads – that is, this is the volume level of various sounds that the driver perceives).

I give the Jeep Avenger a point, we fix the score 1:0 in its favor. Why is that? You see, the suspensions of the two cars are set up completely differently, but each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages - here it is equal. However, the Jeep Avenger's hybrid power unit still allows it to literally win the advantage, bit by bit: it is a little more economical, a little more dynamic, can drive only on electric power, and provides more driving modes (also for off-road). Although, speaking of off-road, if we were to add the Renault Duster with all-wheel drive to this pair, all questions would immediately be closed in its favor.

Round five: cost and equipment

Both cars are quite modern, and therefore in each case, even in the starting configuration, you can count on front and side airbags, alloy wheels and LED headlights, cruise control and climate control, a digital instrument panel and multimedia system, lane control and emergency braking function, etc.

In addition, the 2025 Nissan Juke crossover offers a choice between a manual or automatic transmission for the starting configuration - this gives us a minimum price tag of UAH 923,000 (from $22.4 thousand) or UAH 985,000 (from $24 thousand) depending on the type of gearbox. The maximum configurations of the Nissan Juke can boast a surround view system, Bose audio with speakers in the headrests, combined interior trim, etc. The price of the maximum versions of the Nissan Juke is about UAH 1.22 million or $ 29.8 thousand, depending on the year of manufacture.

The Jeep Avenger crossover is more expensive from the start - from 1.034 million UAH or $ 25 thousand. Even if you take into account the mandatory presence of an "automatic" and compare it with the Nissan Juke also with an "automatic", the difference in price still reaches 50 thousand UAH. In the maximum trim levels, the Jeep Avenger costs from 1.14-1.16 million UAH or about $ 28 thousand - and it seems that in this case the Jeep is more profitable. But keep in mind that the most interesting equipment items were left as options: keyless access and electric trunk lid, JBL audio, panoramic glass sunroof, electric seat adjustment with lumbar massage function. Add option packages and get an additional 125 thousand UAH - and now the maximum version of the Jeep Avenger will cost about 1.27 million UAH or almost $ 31 thousand. That is, we again have a price difference of 50 thousand UAH. And if we add the offers of the 2024 Nissan Juke or the starting version with a manual transmission, then the difference can reach about 100 thousand UAH.

The score in this round is 1:0 in favor of the Nissan Juke: it turns out to be cheaper, offers more trim levels, even if they are fixed. The Jeep Avenger crossover can boast interesting options, as well as a unique electric version (but it is quite expensive); we also expect a unique Jeep Avenger 4xE with all-wheel drive.

Results: 4:3 in favor of Nissan Juke

It seemed that both cars are compact crossovers that focus on design. But what a big difference between them! It will be noted that the winner Nissan Juke initially focuses on design, but then does not forget about practicality: a more comfortable and spacious interior, clarity and ease of control, a wider choice of trim levels and a lower starting price tag. In contrast, the Jeep Avenger crossover seems to be cruising between extremes: it does everything for the driver, but can forget about the rear passengers; it strives to happily jump along dirt roads away from the city, but sometimes it swings and jerks unpleasantly. To summarize: the Nissan Juke crossover plays the role of a sensible partner for automotive life, but the Jeep Avenger is like that bright rascal that amuses today and drives to white heat tomorrow. So choose the option to your taste and be sure: in the desire to get a bright design - you definitely won't go wrong. The only question is what else you want to add.

This was only the first material of this format, so I'm interested in your feedback and requests for future similar test duels; write everything in the comments - I'll definitely read and respond.
