The gaming industry is going through some of its most difficult years. Every month, there are at least a few news about new layoffs, but Japanese studios are doing well, including FromSoftware. The developer of Elden Ring announced in a new press release that it will raise salaries for both old and new employees.

Starting in April 2025, existing employees will receive a base salary increase of approximately 11.8%. At the same time, the starting salary for new employees will also increase from ¥260,000 (~$1770) to ¥300,000 (~$2050).

“At FromSoftware, we strive to make games that convey emotion, create value, and inspire joy. To this end, we are working towards stable income and a rewarding work environment where our employees can apply themselves to development. The increase in base and starting salaries is one implementation of this policy,” said in a press release.

In March 2024, another Japanese gaming company Capcom also announced a salary increase for Japanese employees. In addition, according to Metacritic, Capcom also became the best publisher of 2023.

Neither FromSoftware nor Capcom has made large-scale layoffs in recent years. At the same time, the rest of the gaming industry has been conducting huge layoffs. More than 9,000 employees were laid off in 2023 and almost 6,000 more in the first month of 2024 alone.
