Google has updated the incognito warning in the Chrome browser. This happened after the company agreed to settle a $5 billion lawsuit, reports MSPowerUser.

The updated warning was noticed in the Canary build of Google Chrome. It states that the incognito mode will allow you to browse privately. However, this will not change the way data is collected.

“Now you can browse privately, and other people who use this device won’t see your activity. However, downloads, bookmarks and reading list items will be saved,” the updated warning says.

Chrome Incognito

In December, Google announced that it was ready to settle a class action lawsuit over incognito mode in Chrome. The lawsuit was filed in 2020 in California, when the company was accused of continuing to “track, collect, and identify [users’] real-time browsing data” even when they were using a confidential mode.

It is noteworthy that Google in this case referred to the incognito warning in Chrome, as if in this way the company informed users about the types of tracking.

However, the judge rejected Google’s motion for summary judgment and noted that the company had never informed users that data collection was ongoing even in incognito mode.
