Fairbuds XL – modular over-ear headphones that are fairly easy to repair

Fairphone introduced its first over-ear headphones. The feature of Fairbuds XL are that they are made of recycled materials, as well as their high repairability, thanks to their modular design.

Headphones consist of 11 parts. The device is quite easy to disassemble and replace any module in case of failure. For example, when you feel that the battery with a capacity of 800 mAh no longer holds the declared 30 hours of music playback, you can easily install a new one.

Fairbuds XL are made from 100% recycled aluminum and textiles and 80% recycled plastic. Even the electronics inside the headphones use 100% recycled tin solder paste.

40 mm drivers are responsible for sound reproduction. Bluetooth 5.1 module with support for AAC, SBC and aptX HD codecs is provided for connecting to audio sources. Simultaneous connection to two devices is also supported. Moreover, the headphones can be used in wired mode via the USB-C port (a 3.5 mm audio jack is not provided).

There is an active noise cancellation mode. When using it, the total working time from one charge is reduced to 26 hours. Headphones work with voice assistants Google Assistant, Apple Siri, Amazon Alexa. The device is protected against moisture and dust according to class IP54. In the proprietary application, you can adjust the equalizer and update the software.

Fairbuds XL are available in black and green. Cost – €249 / £219.
