Windows 11 will soon allow you to force close programs from the Taskbar

Microsoft presented the new Windows 11 Dev build 23430, which became available in the Developer Channel. Among other things, it has an option to forcibly close the program (End Task) by right-clicking on its icon in the Taskbar.

Now, it is not always possible to “kill” a program that has suddenly frozen by simply clicking on the “cross” in its window or on the thumbnail with a preview that appears when you move the mouse cursor to the icon on the Taskbar. You have to start the Task Manager, search for the desired program in it and select the End Task item there. Well, soon it will be possible to do it directly on the Desktop in literally a couple of clicks.

By default, the option is not activated in the new build, you can try to enable it in the Settings – Privacy & Security – For developers – but even after that, it still refuses to work. Microsoft says it is aware of the issue and will fix it in future releases.
