Tesla Cybertruck mass production is delayed until 2024
Tesla Cybertruck is one of the most anticipated products of Elon Musk’s companies. The pickup truck was announced back in 2019, but mass production was delayed several times, both due to COVID and other problems with the production and supply of components. It was expected that the conveyor would start working already this year, but this hope has been postponed again.
In his latest conversation with investors this week, Elon Musk confirmed that mass production of the Tesla Cybertruck will not begin this year and will be delayed until next year.
“I always try to downplay the start of production. It increases exponentially, but it is very slow at first,” commented Musk.
And with that, last year’s call to investors said that specs and pricing “will be different.”
To somehow balance the situation, Tesla announced that it has begun installing the necessary equipment for assembling the pickup. The Cybertruck is expected to be primarily assembled at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.
But industry experts warn that the company should speed up because other manufacturers are not sitting idle and the appearance of the Cybertruck comes in a rather strong competition.
“Cybertruck will be hitting an increasingly crowded sector of the EV market amid the F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer EV, Rivian R1T, and likely the Chevy Silverado EV and RAM 1500 EV following closely behind. The downside for Tesla is that the Cybertruck almost seems like old news,” Edmunds executive director of insights Jessica Cawell said in an email to The Verge.
