Nobody buys the Tesla Cybertruck, even with a $6,000 discount

Tesla is offering discounts of up to $6,000 on the Cybertruck in Canada and the US. But even so, they're still not being bought. Forbes writes about this.

The recently released 2025 Cybertruck is eligible for the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit, but the 2024 model, which is still in Tesla's inventory, is not. So the company is offering a $4,000 discount for the standard trim and a $6,000 discount for the Foundations series.

Tesla faced a slew of issues during the launch of the Cybertruck, including issues with the windshield wipers, rearview camera, accelerator pedal, and rusting of the vehicle after rain.

Given the state of the industry, the company's ambitious goal of producing 250,000 Cybertrucks annually seems unrealistic. Some analysts believe that the company should focus on producing a cheaper, single-engine version of the Cybertruck to stimulate demand.

The Cybertruck situation highlights how difficult it is to bring unusual vehicles to market. While the vehicle's futuristic design initially generated a lot of hype, its high cost and limited initial supply hindered its popularity.

Price reductions and discounts can work if there's a customer base that's considering a purchase. But it's worth remembering that this is still a $60,000-plus vehicle with a documented list of issues.
