Bloomberg insider and journalist Mark Gurman says that Apple is considering installing mobile connectivity in its Mac lineup for the first time.
In early 2025, Apple is going to introduce its own 5G chip, which the company has been working on for several years. This modem will appear in the new iPhone SE, the base model of the iPad, and the iPhone 17 Air, allowing Apple to test the technology before implementing it on its flagship devices.

Over the next three years, this Apple 5G modem will be introduced in other iPhone and iPad models and may also appear on Mac computers. Thanks to 5G, Macs will be able to connect to a cellular network like a 5G-enabled iPhone or iPad, without the need for Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot.
Apple’s first modem will support 5G speeds of up to 6 GHz, and the second-generation version will be able to work with faster mmWave technology. Apple aims to push Qualcomm out of the market with its third-generation chips, which will provide better performance and have artificial intelligence features. In the long run, Apple plans to completely replace Qualcomm’s modem chips with its own designs.
