Bluesky is not aimed at politically left-wing users or those who oppose Donald Trump or Elon Musk and his X platform – it is a platform for a global audience. This was stated by the company’s Chief Operating Officer Rose Wang, Bloomberg reports.
Wang points out that the goal of the social network is not to make it convenient only for leftists or US users: “To say it’s a US-centric app with a leftist bias is wrong.” She also emphasizes that Bluesky has a global audience, and as more users come on board, the opinion of its leftist bias will change.
Many users consider Bluesky to be a “left-wing” platform, as after Donald Trump’s victory and Elon Musk’s radical algorithmic changes to X, a significant number of Democratic supporters in the United States switched to this social network. In particular, since November 5, more than 10 million new users have joined Bluesky, most of whom are US citizens.
In addition, Wang also said that the company plans to launch a subscription service “by the end of this year.” Earlier , she said that the subscription will have several premium features, such as the ability to upload higher quality videos or the ability to customize your profile with different colors or avatar frames.
To grow sustainably, we’re working on a subscription model for premium features like higher-quality video uploads and profile customizations (think colors and avatar frames), but Bluesky will always be free to use. We believe information and conversation should stay accessible to everyone.
At the same time, Wang also assured that users will not lose any important features by having to pay. “Bluesky will always be free to use. We believe that information and discussion should be accessible to everyone,” said the COO.
Rose Wang also said that unlike X, the subscription will not give paid users special treatment, such as promoting posts or blue tick. The company also has no plans to sell user data or resort to tokens, NFTs, or other controversial trends.
Currently, the new social network has already passed the 24 million user mark, and in October, the company raised $15 million in investment. The company’s CEO Jay Graber has also previously noted that Bluesky will monetize only through subscriptions and providing access to services for third-party developers. She said that the company excluded the possibility of allowing advertisers to send algorithmic ads.
We’d also like to take this opportunity to announce that Mezha has recently joined Bluesky.
