On November 5, 2024, the US presidential election took place, where Donald Trump was elected as the new leader of the country. As a result, two platforms, BlueSky and Threads, competing with the social network X, owned by Elon Musk, who is already close to Trump, received a large influx of users, Bloomberg reports.

BlueSky, a decentralized social network, gained more than 700,000 new users in less than a week after the election. Most of the registrations are in the United States. The total number of users of the platform is already 14.5 million. Since September this year, 4.5 million people have registered on the social network.

Threads, Meta’s X-like social network, also showed growth and gained over a million new users three days after the election. In total, more than 275 million people have already registered on the platform, which is almost double the number of 150 million reported in April.

The social network Meta is now the first most popular free app in the United States. One of the main drivers for users to switch to other platforms is the politics of Elon Musk himself, who has long promoted right-wing views on his platform and actively supported Trump. A huge number of bots, a large number of posts for collecting interactions, and the overall toxicity of the platform do not help either.
