The Subaru Outback has always been a crossover wagon based on the Subaru Legacy, but that may soon change. CARSCOOPS magazine claims that the next generation of the Subaru Outback will be closer to a crossover than a station wagon.

In other words, the Subaru Outback should occupy an intermediate position between the new Subaru Forester and the large 3-row crossover Subaru Ascent, and may even replace the latter. In addition, the novelty will significantly change its own design: two-story headlights, trapezoidal wheel arches, smooth window sill lines with a small step in the transition from the rear door to the trunk are already noticeable.

We should also expect significant changes in the powertrains. It is likely that the 2.5-liter atmospheric engine (185 hp) and the 2.4-liter turbo engine (264 hp) will remain, as well as the CVT variator and all-wheel drive.

But in addition, the new Subaru Outback can get a hybrid based on a 2.5-liter opposition gasoline engine and a rather powerful (88 kW or 120 hp) electric motor. Thus, the total power of the hybrid can exceed 200 “horses” while offering good efficiency.

We will soon find out how justified these announcements are: the Subaru Outback is due to debut next year, with sales expected to start in the fall of 2025.
