Apple has significantly reduced the production of the Vision Pro mixed reality headset and may completely stop the production of new devices in November 2024. This is reported by The Information with reference to people directly involved in the creation of components for the headset.
Employees from the three factories where the headset is assembled reported that they have produced enough electrical and mechanical components for 500,000 or 600,000 Vision Pro units. At the same time, an employee of one of the plants said that they stopped producing new components in May and now have thousands of undelivered parts in their warehouse.
Apple is currently focused on developing a new model of augmented reality headset that will cost less than $3500. The company could potentially release such a headset by the end of 2025. At the same time, Apple has stopped the development of the second generation of the premium headset for at least a year.
In addition, Apple has informed Luxshare, the Chinese company responsible for the final assembly of the headset, that the company may have to stop production in November. The Chinese plant currently produces about 1,000 headsets per day.
So far, the company has enough parts in its inventory to produce the headset in case the demand for the device suddenly increases. In addition, the company informed one of the component manufacturers that it is projected to need to produce parts for 4 million devices.
Earlier, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also said that Apple was reducing orders for the iPhone 16. Over the next three quarters, the company reduced orders by 10 million devices.
