Apple has reduced the number of iPhone 16 orders for the fourth quarter of 2024 and the first half of 2025 by 10 million units. This was reported by a well-known analyst and insider Ming-Chi Kuo.

Most of all, Apple has reduced orders for regular iPhone 16 models, without the Pro prefix. As a result of these reductions, the expected number of iPhone 16 units produced in the second half of 2024 will be about 84 million.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, about 80 million iPhone 16s will be produced, compared to 84 million in the same period last year. In the first quarter of 2025, about 45 million new smartphones will be produced, and in the second quarter – 39 million, compared to 48 and 41 million in 2024, respectively.

The decline in orders for new iPhones will not have a major impact on Apple’s overall revenue in the last quarter of 2024, as there was a larger difference in the number of smartphones produced and sold in Q4 2023. However, the financial consequences may appear as early as the first part of 2025.

In particular, the first half of 2025 will also see the production of the iPhone SE 4. Between December and the first quarter of 2025, about 8.6 million devices will be produced. This will diversify the range of smartphones available to customers, which will affect sales of new models.

Kuo noted that some analysts believe that Apple Intelligence could significantly increase iPhone shipments in the near future, but he disagrees. At the same time, Kuo is confident in the long-term potential of artificial intelligence functions. However, the decline in orders for new smartphones indicates that this is not enough now and that the company needs additional hardware innovations.
