Some users in Australia, Germany, and Thailand have been given the opportunity to re-select their YouTube Premium Lite subscription after the company dropped the plan in 2023. This was reported by Android Authority.
Initially, users on social media began to report that they were able to choose the cheaper Premium Lite option when signing up for a subscription. Users in Germany and Australia have been able to do so.
The updated Premium Lite on YouTube offers fewer ads, but doesn’t completely eliminate them. In addition, this plan does not allow you to download videos, watch them in the background on smartphones, and there is no access to YouTube Music.
With these limitations, Premium Lite costs half the price of the regular plan, which offers the full range of features. For some users in Australia, Lite costs $8.99, while the full Premium costs $16.99.
Google representatives confirmed that they are testing an updated version of Premium Lite. Further plans for this subscription have not yet been announced.
In June 2024, Google also began canceling YouTube Premium for users who had subscribed cheaper with a VPN. In addition, the company announced its intention to add new subscription plans.
