On Tuesday, October 1, Cloud Imperium Games sent a letter to its developers informing them that they will have to work seven days a week for the next 18 days. This is necessary for the studio to have time to prepare everything necessary for the annual CitizenCon fan meeting to be held on October 19, 2024. It is reported by Insider Gaming.

Over the next two and a half weeks, the developers will need to finish developing the 3.24.2 patch for Star Citizen and prepare a Squadron 42 demo to showcase the first chapter of the game. The letter says that “this means that over the next two weekends, we’re asking for extra time from everyone working on something for Citcon.”

The letter goes on to clarify that all studio employees will need to come to the office on Friday, October 4 and October 11, as Friday is usually a day for working from home. Employees also need to come in on Saturdays, for which they will receive additional days off in the future. The company will provide them with breakfast and lunch.

On Sundays, it will be possible to work from home, but Cloud Imperium Games also “encourages” employees to come to the office. As in the case of Saturdays, the company will provide breakfast and lunch, and employees will be credited with days off that they can use later.

Insider Gaming also has access to earlier emails from Star Citizen developers and, in particular, the Squadron 42 development team. In the case of the latter, they are required to work an additional 12 hours per week to make it to Citizencon, for which they will be given days off, but they can only be used after Squadron 42 is released.

Meanwhile, the amount of crowdfunding for the development of Star Citizen and Squadron 42 has already passed the $720 million mark, but this does not help the company much. Despite the huge fundraising, Cloud Imperium Games laid off an unknown number of employees in early 2024. At the same time, Star Citizen itself has already been hit by cheaters, even though the game has not yet received an official release.
