The large premium crossover Volvo XC90 will continue to be with us! This is indicated by the next update, which promises several additional years of life on the assembly line – along with the new Volvo EX90 electric car.
It is in the likeness of the latter that the Volvo XC90 has been updated: new headlights with dual LED lines, a more concise front bumper, and a new grille with sloping stripes. In addition, new wheel options were introduced and the rear exhaust outlets disappeared.
But the technical part of the Volvo XC90 remained almost unchanged. The engine range is based on the B5 or B6 versions: a 2-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an output of 250 or 300 hp, respectively. These versions have an optional 48-volt MHEV hybrid and classic all-wheel drive with a driveshaft to the rear wheels.
The maximum variant is the Volvo XC90 T8: it is a PHEV hybrid with 456 hp, built on the basis of the same 2-liter gasoline engine, but with a separate powerful electric motor to drive the rear wheels. Such a hybrid can travel up to 70 km on electric power alone. The basic suspension is a conventional spring suspension, but with new, more comfortable shock absorbers; for an additional fee, an air suspension is available.
The center console has been significantly updated in the cabin: the Volvo XC90 crossover gets a new multimedia system with an enlarged 11.2-inch display that now protrudes over the panel. The ventilation deflectors have also changed, new shelves have been added, and new finishing materials have been used. However, the interior format has remained unchanged: the Volvo XC90 crossover can offer a 5/6/7-seat interior with two or three rows of seats.
By the way, the Volvo XC90 crossover is the car that is still produced in Sweden, at the company’s historic plant. The updated Volvo XC90 is already on the assembly line, and the first finished cars should reach dealerships by the end of this year.
