Elon Musk refuses to comply with the ban of the Supreme Court of Brazil and will continue to provide access to his social network X through Starlink satellite terminals. This is reported by Engadget.

All Internet providers operating in Brazil must block access to X by September 8, 2024. The president of the Brazilian telecommunications agency Anatel said that Starlink refuses to comply with the court decision until its frozen assets are unblocked.

Supreme Court Judge Alejandro de Moraes also blocked Starlink’s local bank accounts. Moraes reportedly accused Elon Musk of spreading hate speech and disinformation in order to collect a $3 million fine imposed on Musk for ignoring his orders to block certain accounts.

Starlink asked the court to unblock its assets, but the court rejected the request. Musk called the freezing of Starlink’s accounts “illegal,” arguing that SpaceX and X are separate companies.

There are about 250,000 Starlink customers in Brazil. The service has proved popular in rural areas and among indigenous tribes in the Amazon. Starlink has promised to provide free internet access to its Brazilian customers as long as its accounts in the country remain blocked.

In response, Brazil may revoke the Internet service’s license and then remove equipment from 23 ground stations. This will not disrupt the service, but it will significantly degrade the quality of communication.
