Starni Games, a Kyiv-based studio known for the Strategic Mind series of turn-based wargames and the Headquarters games: World War II and Ukraine War Stories, has presented its new project, a text-based role-playing game about a robot child – Robot’s Fate Alice.
The game is set in the United States in 2070. The protagonist Alice is a robot of the Children’s Companion model, developed using neural network AI and trained to love people and help them faithfully.
“Robot’s Fate: Alice is an interactive story where you can build your own main character personality with your choices as you progress through the plot and explore different possibilities. Alice starts as a blank slate and you can tailor your personality through your actions. Would you be more assertive or diplomatic; more empathetic or pragmatic? All of your choices will shape your persona while unlocking multiple new possibilities,” the game’s description says.
The amount of text in the game is over 220,000 words. The number of important decisions to make is over 150. Robot’s Fate Alice will be translated into 7 languages, including Ukrainian. Russian is not among the languages. The game is scheduled to be released in 2025, but a demo version of this text-based RPG is expected to appear on Steam on January 19, 2024.
According to the description on the Robot’s Fate Alice Steam page, all images in the game were finalized by professional artists, and AI tools were used only to create the first drafts. But the fact is that the screenshots from the game look exactly like 100% generated by AI. It seems that this problem will haunt us for the next few years, as it is impossible to distinguish the work of generative AI from the work of live artists.
