Portable mobile AI device Rabbit R1 was presented at CES. What can it do?

Artificial intelligence startup Rabbit Inc. has introduced a pocket-sized mobile device called Rabbit R1. The development was presented at CES 2024, writes Android Authority.

It is an autonomous portable device that can be controlled by voice. It has a touchscreen display, a push-to-talk button, a microphone for voice commands, speakers, a scroll wheel, and a rotating camera with computer vision support called Rabbit Eye.

The R1 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P35 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, a USB-C port, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and a SIM card slot with 4G support.

The gadget comes with an operating system based on the Large Action Model (LAM) called Rabbit OS. It helps the device navigate and use the user’s applications.

For example, the owner can link R1 to Spotify. Receiving a voice command, the device will be able to not only play music but also tell who wrote the lyrics or music thanks to AI. In fact, it resembles a conversation with ChatGPT, but the company claims that R1 responds much faster.

Of course, the R1’s capabilities are not limited to this. If we take the Uber app as an example, the user can ask the device to order a ride from the office to home, and it will complete the task in one step, compared to several steps that need to be done independently from the app on the smartphone.

Rabbit R1 is already available for pre-sale at $199. Orders in the US will start shipping in March. The R1 will first be trained to work with the most popular applications.
