Sony could lose $1.5 billion by 2027 due to Microsoft and Activision Blizzard
A leak of terabytes of Insomniac data, which included presentations and plans for Sony, revealed that the company expects to lose $1.5 billion by 2027 due to the Microsoft-Activision Blizzard deal.
According to TechSpot, the company sees the merger as a big threat to PlayStation and subscription services, even though Microsoft has guaranteed that Call of Duty will be released on PlayStation for 10 years.
It is the Call of Duty franchise that is key to this threat. The company believes that Microsoft can have more advantages with the release of new games on its consoles, making them temporary exclusives and releasing them in Game Pass on the day of release, which will give Xbox users more advantages.
According to Sony, this could lead to a loss of $1.5 billion by 2027 on PlayStation Plus subscriptions. The company also believes that the transition to a policy similar to Game Pass, when large projects will be available on the day of release by subscription, is unprofitable for them.
In addition, the company sees a threat in the fact that Microsoft can provide services on phones, PCs, and consoles, while PlayStation does not yet have this capability.
