Elon Musk allowed conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to return to the X platform

Alex Jones has been allowed to return to the X platform. Five years ago, the conspiracy theorist and his Infowars show were permanently banned from what was then Twitter, writes Engadget.

The conspiracy theorist’s access to the social network was restored after Elon Musk conducted a poll among users. As a result, 70% of respondents supported the return of Alex Jones.

Soon after, the conspiracy theorist’s account became active again. He even retweeted a post by blogger Andrew Tate, who was at the center of a judicial investigation into allegations of human trafficking and rape.

Alex Jones is well known for promoting conspiracy theories. For example, he has been claiming for years that the mass shooting at Sandy Hook High School was staged. The tragedy occurred on December 14, 2012, when 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed twenty children and seven adults.

“I vehemently disagree with what he said about Sandy Hook, but are we a platform that believes in freedom of speech or are we not? That is what it comes down to in the end. If the people vote him back on, this will be bad for 𝕏 financially, but principles matter more than money,” wrote Elon Musk, responding to users after a poll on X.

However, Alex Jones is known not only for his scandalous statements about the Sandy Hook tragedy. In 2022, he stated that he did not believe in the atrocities committed by Russians in Bucha. He also accused Ukraine of staging this tragedy.
