The animated film “Mavka. The Forest Song” will get a sequel, as well as a feature film for the audience of 12+, the producer of the cartoon Iryna Kostiuk and the CEO of the Nerd licensing agency Tetiana Ruban told at the Cartoon Business 2023 forum. Information about this appeared on the official website of the film.

In the feature film, the character of Mavka will supposedly be brought closer to an “authentic mythological and mystical image.” I wonder how close it will be to the original by Lesya Ukrainka, which is not intended for teenagers aged 12.

Another expansion of Mavka’s universe will be an animated series created in collaboration with the French animation studio TeamTo. The series will feature new characters – Mavka’s friend Povitrulya (pictured above), who will be “the absolute opposite in character” and the “forest villain” Chugayster.

At least there are no approximate dates for the release of Mavka 2, the animated series, or the feature film. But remembering how long it took to create Mavka itself…

Meanwhile, according to the Box Office Mojo website, “Mavka. The Forest Song” has already grossed $17,678,579 at the box office. In June 2023, this figure was only $13 million. According to the film’s creators, the global box office is even higher – $20 million.

The film’s box office gross was highest in Ukraine ($4.2 million), France ($4.1 million), Poland ($2.1 million), Italy ($1.3 million), and Germany ($0.9 million). In total, Mavka has been translated into 32 languages.
