OpenAI has suspended registration of new subscriptions to ChatGPT Plus. This was reported by the company’s CEO Sam Altman, according to Search Engine Journal.
The decision was made due to the high demand for the service after the DevDay conference presented GPT-4 Turbo and custom versions of GPT, among other things.
The company is currently pausing new subscriptions to ensure a high user experience for existing subscribers. However, interested users can sign up for notifications when ChatGPT Plus subscriptions become available again.
“We are pausing new ChatGPT Plus sign-ups for a bit. The surge in usage post devday has exceeded our capacity…” Sam Altman wrote on the X platform.
By the way, during the DevDay conference, Sam Altman said that ChatGPT has 100 million users per week. This announcement is noteworthy because it is official OpenAI data, not a third-party estimate. Perhaps this is an attempt to refute recent media reports that ChatGPT’s popularity is beginning to decline.
