100 million people use ChatGPT every week. The announcement was made by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at a conference for developers, writes The Verge.

After its launch almost a year ago, ChatGPT was recognized as the fastest growing app in history. In just two months after its launch, about 100 million people used it every month.

This figure is really impressive, because, for example, it took Facebook about four and a half years to reach 100 million users. Twitter took more than five years, and Instagram just over two years.

ChatGPT’s record was surpassed by Meta’s Threads service, which gathered 100 million users in less than a week after its launch in July. However, Threads’ performance seems to have declined in the following months, with just under 100 million monthly active users as of October.

The current announcement about the number of ChatGPT users is also noteworthy because it is official OpenAI data, not a third-party estimate. Perhaps this is an attempt to refute recent media reports that ChatGPT’s popularity is beginning to decline.
