Apple claims that Safari is three different browsers
Apple has stated that Safari for iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS are three different browsers. The company made the announcement to avoid regulations in the European Union, writes The Register.
In addition to three “different” browsers, the company also claims to have five different app stores and operating systems.
In early September, Apple, along with Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, ByteDance, and Microsoft, were listed as gatekeepers under the European Digital Markets Act. Apple was then asked to make its ecosystem open to competitors.
The company tried to change the EU’s decision by calling the browsers on each platform a separate service, but this only led to the fact that now iPadOS and iMessages are also being considered for possible opening to competitors.
Moreover, Apple followed Microsoft’s example and began to say that no one uses Safari, and therefore the browser should not be subject to any regulations.
