The White House has issued an executive order on the regulation of artificial intelligence, reports Mashable.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed said that these directives are “the strongest set of measures ever taken by any government in the world” to protect how AI affects American citizens.

In this way, the U.S. government seeks to reduce the risks around AI and at the same time accelerate its potential. The document contains a number of provisions.

For example, developers of powerful AI systems (e.g., OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft) must share the results of their security tests with the federal government. It is assumed that this rule will only apply to future tools, not those that are already in operation.

Another provision concerns testing by so-called “red teams”. These are groups of testers who pose as attackers. Their work will be based on high standards set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

In addition, the content created by artificial intelligence must be watermarked. The U.S. Department of Commerce will develop guidelines for labeling such content.

Among other things, the document provides for the protection of consumer privacy, combating discrimination in AI algorithms, attracting top talent in the field of artificial intelligence, and supporting employees vulnerable to the development of technology.

Earlier it was reported that TIME magazine presented the best inventions of 2023. The list includes 200 innovations that are changing our lives. The list of the best inventions includes 14 tools based on artificial intelligence.
