Automattic, owners of WordPress and Tumblr, acquired Texts, a service that collects all messages in one place

Automattic acquired Texts, a service for collecting messages from all messengers and chats in one place, for $50 million, reports The Verge.

Matt Mullenweg, CEO of Automattic, said that the company’s two main areas of focus were publishing and commerce, which were helped by services such as WordPress, Pocket, Tumblr, etc., and the purchase of Texts allows them to open another one – communication.

The first thing the team is doing under Automattic’s wing is to finish developing the mobile app. According to Mullenweg, it is quite a challenge to create an app that is secure, has all the necessary features, and does not kill the battery, but with new resources, it will become easier.

Mullenweg believes that group chats and communication in messengers are increasingly replacing meetings and social events. According to him, no one has yet figured out how to turn online communication into a business, but services like Texts make it possible.

Currently, Texts supports iMessages, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Messenger, X (екс-Twitter), Instagram, Linkedin, Slack та Discord. The service claims that it encrypts your messages and does not pass them through its servers.

Texts also offers additional features, such as translation, summary, and reply assistance in chats using artificial intelligence, search for files and messages across all messengers, and even a feature that allows you to mark messages as unread in messengers that don’t support it.

Currently, Texts requires a $15 subscription, but Mullenweg said that a free version with limited functionality may be available in the future.
