Apple has announced the Apple Watch Ultra 2, an update to its most expensive watch aimed at athletes. The model received several significant updates, including a more powerful S9 SiP chip and a brighter display.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 received updated straps, but the overall design of the watch has not changed, it is still available in only one 49 mm size, has a sapphire crystal screen and a titanium case with IP6X dust protection, WR100 water protection (water resistance up to 100 meters), EN13319 (submersion up to 40 meters) and MIL-STD 810H certification.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 features a 1.92-inch LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 502×410 pixels, but this time its maximum brightness reaches 3000 nits, making it 50% brighter than the first generation Apple Watch Ultra. This is especially useful for better readability in bright sunlight.
Updated Apple Watch Ultra 2 platform
The watch is equipped with the new S9 SiP (System in Package) chip, which contains a 4-core neural coprocessor that can process machine learning tasks twice as fast as its predecessor, increasing the performance of the entire system and enabling new features. This allows the Siri voice assistant to process requests directly on the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and give it access to the user’s health data, as it does not go to the cloud. Despite the platform update, the claimed battery life of the watch has not changed and remains at 36 hours.
In addition, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 has twice as much internal memory – 64 GB versus 32 GB in the first version of the watch.
Double tap gesture
Like the Apple Watch Series 9, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 also features a new dual-touch gesture that allows users to control the watch with just one hand. By double-tapping the index finger and thumb together, users can perform a variety of actions, such as pausing music or answering calls.
Modular Dial Ultra Watch Face
The new watch face, called Modular Ultra, takes advantage of the large display to show real-time data such as altitude and depth. It offers the most features of any Apple digital watch face, making it very customizable for a variety of sports and activities.
More accurate searching
The watch is equipped with a second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip that enables Precision Finding for the iPhone 15 family. This feature detects distance and direction, and provides tactile and audible cues to help you find your lost iPhone.
Availability and price
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is available for pre-order in the US today and will be available in stores on Friday, September 22. The price of the watch is $799 in the US, and it is sold in one version with a communication module.
