Google will unveil new application programming interfaces (APIs) that will use the company’s artificial intelligence capabilities to provide real-time information on solar energy, air quality, and even pollen, writes Engadget with reference to Yale Maguire, Google’s vice president of geosustainability.

One of them is the Solar API. It will be based on the work of the Project Sunroof, which the tech giant launched in 2015 and which combines location, sunlight, and navigation data. API will use modern maps and more advanced computing resources than its predecessor. It will cover 320 million buildings in 40 countries, including the United States, France, and Japan.

Solar API will be useful, for example, for solar panel installers. The developers have taught the AI model to determine the angles and slopes of the roof using satellite or aerial images, evaluate the shadow from trees, and historical weather data. This will allow for a more accurate prediction of how much energy a solar panel will produce.

Another interface is the Air Quality API, which will cover more than 100 countries. It will track air quality by checking various information, including government monitoring stations. The API will even take into account traffic conditions and the number of vehicles to better predict which pollutants will prevail.

And finally, Pollen API. It will track the seasonal release of tree pollen in more than 65 countries, taking into account local wind patterns and annual trends. The API will provide data on the amount of pollen in the field and information on allergens. This can be used, among other things, in applications for planning trips to work or on vacation.
