On August 9, 2023, the site Yandex.kz stopped opening for most Internet users in Kazakhstan. According to the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, this is due to restrictions on access to this web resource, writes Zakon.kz.

From August 9, 2023, the domain name www.yandex.kz has been suspended for hosting an Internet resource on hardware and software complexes outside the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with subparagraph 6) of paragraph 16 of the Rules of registration, use and distribution of domain names in the Kazakhstani Internet segment, approved by Order No. 38/NK of the Minister of Defense and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 13, 2018,” the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan commented.

Earlier, a number of Kazakh media outlets reported that the Russian Federal Security Service would have round-the-clock access to Yandex.Taxi data in Kazakhstan, including personal information of users.

Earlier, Finnish and Norwegian regulators banned Yandex and its partner Ridetech International from transferring personal data of customers collected in these countries by Yango taxi service to Russia.

Since June 2022, the founder of Yandex Arkady Volozh, who was born in Kazakhstan and now lives in Israel, has been on the sanctions list of the European Union and Switzerland, and since October 2022, Ukraine.
