Samsung is preparing to release the second generation of its SmartTag tracker. The gadget came to light in the documents of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Let me remind you that the first generation of the device was offered in two versions: SmartTag (only Bluetooth connection) for $29 and SmartTag+ (Bluetooth + UWB) for $39. One of the main nuances is that SmartTag works only with Galaxy smartphones. And so far, there are doubts that this approach will change, because there is no evidence of support for the Find My Device network from Android.

One the other hand, users will not have to choose between versions of SmartTag 2 – it is reported that Samsung will offer one option with Bluetooth and UWB. But the most noticeable changes concern the design. If the predecessor had the shape of a square with rounded corners, the new one will be oval with a large round cutout. It resembles switches in smartphone settings. This design will make it easier to attach the tracker to a bunch of keys or other things.

Samsung SmartTag 2 will get a new design

Usually, the moment when a gadget passes FCC certification, that indicates its imminent announcement. It was expected that SmartTag 2 will be presented together with smartphones Galaxy Fold5 і Galaxy Flip5. Now you can wait for a separate announcement, or the company can wait and present the device together with the Galaxy S24 line early next year.
