Dedicated to the Second World War, the real-time strategy Men of War II from the Ukrainian studio Best Way has received a release date.

The game, like the previous parts of the series, will only be released on Windows PC on Steam and Epic Games Store.

Best Way is a Ukrainian studio that began developing games at the end of the 1990s. The company was founded in Severodonetsk and was located in this city until 2014. With the beginning of the russian-Ukrainian war, the company relocated to Cherkasy.

From the very beginning, Best Way, like many other Ukrainian game companies, cooperated very closely with the russian 1C. Together they released games about the Second World War: Soldiers: Heroes of World War II (2004), Faces of War (2006), Brothers of War (2007), Men of War (2008). In addition, the GEM1, GEM2 and GEM3 engines created by Best Way were used in many 1C games, including Majesty 2 and the propaganda project Tskhinvali on Fire.

In the 2010s, the Best Way studio tried several times to launch its own original projects, different from the Behind the enemy’s lines series, but was forced to close them all. These are role-playing games in the spirit of the Soviet Fallout Novy Soyuz (closed in 2014) and Project No. 5.

Finally, Best Way returned to cooperation with 1C and announced the development of an online tactical strategy for the Second World War, Men of War II: Arena. In 2021, this project was also closed.

Unfortunately, even after the start of a full-scale war, Best Way did not stop cooperation with 1C, which already on February 25, 2022 was quickly sold to the Chinese Tencent and changed its name to Fulqrum Games, remaining essentially the same 1C.

So, Men of War II is published by Fulqrum Games and seems like Best Way doesn’t mind. Men of War II even has Ukrainian localization at the level of text and subtitles, voice acting in the game seems to be absent.

Whether to consider Men of War II a Ukrainian game, and Best Way a Ukrainian studio – decide for yourself.
