The Beatles used AI to create the final song with John Lennon’s voice
The legendary Beatles used artificial intelligence to release their last song with the voice of John Lennon. This is reported by Gizmodo.
According to band member Paul McCartney, he used AI to “extricate” Lennon’s voice from an old demo to complete the song. He said that the song will be released this year.
At the same time, Paul McCartney did not specify which composition it was about. It is expected to be Now And Then, which Lennon wrote in 1978. It was one of many on his cassette called “For Paul”.
Such an idea appeared in the band after working with the director on the documentary film 2021 Get Back, which tells the story of the creation of the Let It Be album. McCartney said Jackson’s team taught computers to separate the band members’ voices from background noise and their own instruments to get a “clean” sound.
When it came to Lennon, the performer noted that the director was able to extract John’s voice from the tape. That was the key point.
“We had John’s voice and a piano and he could separate them with AI. They tell the machine, ‘That’s the voice. This is a guitar. Lose the guitar.’ So when we came to make what will be the last Beatles’ record, it was a demo that John had [and] we were able to take John’s voice and get it pure through this AI,” McCartney shared. “Then we can mix the record, as you would normally do. So it gives you some sort of leeway.”
Although the performer is impressed by artificial intelligence, he is still concerned about how it can be used.
