Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida isn’t sure cloud gaming is ready for mass adoption in the industry due to technical issues. This was reported by TheGamer.

“I think cloud itself is an amazing business model, but when it comes to games, the technical difficulties are high,” he said.

In his opinion, it is very difficult to ensure the operation of cloud gaming at a level that would satisfy players. The words of Sony’s CEO indicate that we should not expect PlayStation to catch up with Xbox in the development of this area in the near future. The manufacturer seems to be happy with its current business model.

With all that said, Kenichiro Yoshida noted that Sony is still considering various options for cloud gaming. However, PlayStation is still a long way from launching its own game streaming service.

It was previously reported that Sony in the IV quarter of the 2022 financial year ending in March shipped 6.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles. A year earlier, this figure was 2 million units. In total, according to the results of the fiscal year, the Japanese giant shipped 19.1 million PS5s. So the volume of sales of this Sony console since the beginning of sales reached 38.4 million units.

At the same time, sales of Sony games, on the contrary, decreased. In the last quarter of the fiscal year, this indicator was 68 million units compared to 70.5 million a year earlier. The number of monthly active users of the PlayStation Network increased from 106 million to 108 million. But the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers remained at 47.4 million.
