Google promises to reduce Chrome’s battery and memory consumption with two new modes
Google is releasing two new modes for Chrome that are designed to make the browser less draining on your system’s battery and memory. The message says that Chrome will reduce memory usage by up to 30% using Memory Saver mode.
The mode frees memory from open tabs that are not in use. Google also claims that this will help make the active tabs experience smoother. Chrome will reload inactive tabs when the user returns to them.
As for battery saver mode, Google says it will turn on when your laptop’s battery level drops to 20%. Chrome will then limit background activity and visual effects on tabs with videos and animations to improve battery life.
These features will be available in Chrome m108 for desktop. Google says that all users will have access to them in the coming weeks, and that the company is starting to roll out the build today. You can disable these modes in the settings and exclude certain sites from memory saving mode.
