Euro Truck Simulator 2 has turned 10. The box version of the game went on sale on October 18, 2012, the game was released on Steam a little later – on January 16, 2013.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 became a big hit almost immediately, which was a big surprise for the authors, who at that time had already been developing other games of the same plan for 10 years, starting with Hard Truck: 18 Wheels of Steel, which was released in 2002. In fact, ETS 2 was SCS Software’s fourteenth truck game.

In the 10 years since its release, Euro Truck Simulator 2 has received 7 large DLCs that expanded the map to almost all of Europe, and many DLCs with paint jobs for tractors and trailers, as well as tuning kits for trucks of various brands. Currently, another expansion of the map is being prepared for release – Euro Truck Simulator 2 – West Balkans. Older regional DLCs periodically receive updates that bring their appearance up to modern game standards.

Over 10 years, 13 million copies of the main game were sold, as well as about 80 million copies of DLC. According to VG Insights, the game made $132 million, but it looks like it’s only about the game itself, without taking into account the DLC, which should have brought several times more.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 continues to attract new players, with time the number of virtual drivers online only grows. For example, the record of 60,000 online players was set by ETS 2 in April 2020 and renewed in April 2021 with the release of DLC Iberia. Currently, between 35 and 45 thousand people play the game every day.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 turns 10

With the beginning of the heated phase of the Russian-Ukrainian war, SCS Software first froze, and then postponed the release of the Russian DLC Heart of Russia indefinitely. This caused huge losses to the campaign because Russia accounts for the largest share of players. Instead, the studio released the DLC Ukrainian Paint Jobs Pack, all proceeds from the sale of which went to the benefit of Ukraine. The game currently has a Steam rating of 97% (446,685 votes) despite the review bombing by the Russians.

SCS Software hopes that Euro Truck Simulator 2 will be in demand for another 10 years. And on the occasion of the 10th anniversary it conducts an in-game event and gives away valuable prizes. Well, Mezha staff congratulate SCS Software on its anniversary and hope that immediately after our victory, the studio will start developing the long-awaited DLC with a map of Ukraine, the whole of it, including Luhansk and Donetsk regions and Crimea.
