At the beginning of March 2022, the Czech SCS Software, the authors of Euro Truck Simulator 2, expressed their support for Ukraine by releasing a small addition Ukrainian Paint Jobs Pack, all proceeds from the sale of which went to help our country (about $85,000 was collected). In addition, the studio indefinitely postponed the release of the almost finished add-on Heart of Russia, dedicated to central Russia. And so the company expressed its thoughts about further fate of this addition.

“When developing our games we try to be as apolitical as possible, in a way shielding the global player audience from everyday controversies. We quite like the idea that our shared passion, for a truck simulation, allows people to connect, to pay a virtual visit to a neighbouring country in peace, and to enjoy a hobby that we commonly share, rather than allowing anything divisive to set us apart. But since our DLC, Heart of Russia, directly concerns Russia, and with so many people suffering, we decided to refrain from releasing the DLC so that it is not perceived in any way as being in support of or tolerance of the aggression.

We strongly believe that there is hope for the proud people of Ukraine to prevail and for the suffering to end for all. Injustice cannot and must not win. And, when the time comes for Ukraine to rebuild and heal, then we will endeavour to find a way for our Heart of Russia DLC to play whatever part it can in that healing process, for everyone.”

This is quite a difficult step for SCS Software, because the studio exists due to large expansions, in which a lot of time and resources are invested. Cancellation of at least one of them will hurt the team. In addition, it should be understood that Russia has almost the largest community of fans of the game. And quite aggressive fans. That is why comments under this SCS Software post are disabled. In addition, after such a statement, the Russians may organize a boycott of the game or otherwise harm the studio.

Interestingly, it is currently unknown which DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 will be next. We hope that this is Ukraine. The editors of Mezha will try to contact the representatives of the studio to find out.
