The most interesting part of yesterday’s Ubisoft Forward 2022 was, of course, dedicated to Assassin’s Creed. As expected, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Mirage… plus 4 more games in the Assassin’s Creed universe and a joint game series with Netflix based on the franchise.
All the details about Assassin’s Creed Mirage match what was leaked a week ago. The main character of the game is Basim ibn Ishaq from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the events of Mirage take place 20 years before the events of Valhalla. The place is Baghdad and some other locations of the Abbasid Caliphate. The role of Roshan, Basim’s mentor, is voiced by the Iranian-American actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, known to us from the TV series The Expanse. The series goes back to its roots and all.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released in 2023 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC, Amazon Luna. In addition, there will be a subscription to Ubisoft+, which, as a reminder, is not available in Ukraine.
The second announced game in the series is Assassin’s Creed Codename RED, which is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec (they worked on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate). And this is a game about… feudal Japan! What players have been asking Ubisoft for over 10 years now! Finally. We are waiting for ninja assassins. Codename RED is the next project of the main series, so it should not be expected before 2025.
The third project is Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE, which is being worked on by Ubisoft Montreal. This is also a premium project, but it will introduce players to a slightly different type of gameplay, what exactly is still unknown. The place of action is the Holy Roman Empire. The period is the time of the witch hunt, that is, the XV-XVII centuries.
The fourth game is Assassin’s Creed Project JADE. It is an open-world mobile project that is almost as large and detailed as the games in the main series. The location is Ancient China. The time is 215 BC. i.e., the same year when the creation of the Terracotta Army of the emperor of the united China Qin Shi Huangdi began. In Project JADE, players will be allowed to create their own character for the first time in the history of the series.
And finally – Assassins Creed Netflix Series plus another Assassins Creed game for Netflix, not Project JADE. Jeb Steward, screenwriter of Die Hard, Another 48 Hrs, and showrunner of Vikings: Valhalla is adapting the game into a TV series.
What about Assassins Creed: Infinity, you ask? Project Infinity is not a game at all. This is a new hub for Assassins Creed players, a single point of entry into the game universe. And Infinity will be an important part of the project to return multiplayer to the Assassins Creed games, and that’s really cool.
The Assassin’s Creed: 2022 Showcase lasted almost half the time allotted for Ubisoft Forward 2022. The full recording of this part of the show is below.
The bonus is the documentary Assassin’s Creed: Beyond the Creed, dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Assassin’s Creed series.
