Gunzilla Games, which has studios in Frankfurt, Los Angeles and Kyiv (the developers are in Germany and Ukraine), and in which many people from Crytech, 4A Games, Frogwares and other Ukrainian companies work, announced a new game with a third-person view in the genre of Battle Royale – Off The Grid.

Off The Grid is taking place in the cyberpunk future, and the developers insist that they have found a way to diversify and reform the genre of Royal Battle, so they call their game Battle Royale 2.0.

One of the features of Off The Grid will be a powerful narrative component, and here it is interesting, because as Chief Visionary Officer Gunzilla Games involved Neill Blomkamp (!), director and screenwriter of such fantastic films as District 9 (2009), Elysium (2013), Chappie (2015) and Demonic (2021).

Another celebrity will help Blomkamp as the author of the screenplay – science fiction writer Richard Morgan, who also wrote a series of novels about Takeshi Kovacs – Altered Carbon, Broken Angels and Woken Furies. In addition, Morgan worked on the script for Crysis 2 (2011) and the highly underrated Syndicate (2012).

In terms of gameplay, Off The Grid is a royal battle for 150 players with both PvP and story PvE missions. In this case, PvE tasks will use the same maps on which other players perform other missions. In addition, we are promised a cool dynamic plot, which is influenced by the player’s decisions, as well as a vague border between the heroes and antagonists.

Nothing is known about the technical side of the project yet, but based on the vacancy list of the Kyiv office of Gunzilla Games, where most programmers are, Off The Grid uses Unreal Engine 5.

This all sounds interesting, so we are waiting for new details. The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC sometime in 2023. We hope for Ukrainian localization.
