Valve's new virtual reality headset, codenamed Deckard, has entered mass production, UploadVR reports, citing Chinese analytics firm XR Research Institute.
Valve reportedly wants to produce 400,000-600,000 headsets per year. The new device is scheduled to be released by the end of 2025, which is in line with previous rumors.
The figure of 400-600 thousand is in line with the production volumes of the Apple Vision Pro, but significantly lags behind the Meta headsets. For example, the Quest 2, released back in 2020, has already sold over 20 million units.
In addition to the Chinese company's announcement, last month Valve also filed a trademark application for Steam Frame, a possible name for the upcoming headset. This was revealed by dataminers who discovered a reference to Frame in the SteamVR code.
Recall that according to rumors, Valve's new VR headset will cost $1200 and will have a special version of SteamOS with Steam Deck, adapted for virtual reality. It was previously reported that the company is preparing several games for the release of the device.
