AirPods Max, Apple's flagship full-size wireless headphones priced at $549, have had mixed sales and are unlikely to receive an update in the coming years, writes Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter.
According to Gurman, the AirPods Max may seem popular if you live in affluent areas, but in reality their sales are quite mixed. That's enough to stay in the market, but not enough for a new model.
The development of the new AirPods Max requires significant resources, so according to Gurman, Apple would be better off investing them in updating the AirPods Pro or improving the sound in the iPhone. Because of this, the Max has only received one update since its release in 2020 — the transition to a Type-C port.
Where Apple isn't going to wait is with the more affordable, but still expensive AirPods Pro, the second version of which costs $249. The Cupertino company is currently working on a third generation, which will receive a heart rate sensor and will be released by the end of 2025.
Gurman also said that the long-awaited foldable iPhone will have four cameras, a display without a crease, and will return the Touch ID fingerprint scanner beloved by many.
