Arrowhead Games Studios, known for last year's hit Helldivers 2, will create its next game without a partnership with PlayStation. This will allow the studio to release the project on all platforms at once, Forbes reports.
Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani said on the official Helldivers Discord channel that the studio's future is bright due to the overwhelming support from fans. It will also give the developers the freedom to explore new concepts that they wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. Jorjani also said that the studio's sixth game will be released thanks to the fans.
"Game 6 (our next project) will happen the way it will happen thanks to you. The next game is 100% funded by ourselves so we'll call 100% of those shots," Jorjani said.
Answering questions about PlayStation, the CEO noted that he couldn't say anything bad about the collaboration.
"No way. Playstation are great. there would be no Helldivers if it wasn't for them. We're open to working with them again in the future. they are incredibly game/dev oriented. solid partners. and this is me just saying it like it is. not blowing smoke up their asses," the Arrowhead CEO said in a statement.
In January 2025, Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedt revealed that the studio had already begun "planning and conceptualizing" the next game, but that it would not be released anytime soon. Although it was nine years between the release of Helldivers and Helldivers 2, it is unlikely that we will have to wait that long for a new project.
The studio's latest game, Helldivers 2, is a third-person co-op PvE shooter that was released simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC on February 8, 2024. The game had the best launch of any PlayStation Studios project on Steam, selling over 8 million copies in just over a month after its release. Earlier this month, Helldivers 2 also received an update with a new event.
