Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition, a new tablet that will provide advanced features and security for military operations.
The new tablet is based on the 2024 Galaxy Tab Active5, but with improvements created in collaboration with the US Department of Defense. The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition, like previous generations of Tactical Edition devices, features radio compatibility and support for tactical software, as well as new hardware improvements for the secure transmission of classified information.
The tablet features an 8-inch display and an octa-core Exynos 1380 processor, as well as the ability to connect to most tactical radios, drone systems, laser rangefinders, external GPS navigators, and more. It also has the usual connectivity options, such as 5G, LTE, CBRS, and Wi-Fi 6E.
Among other things, the Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition has a 5G band lock mode, which allows it to connect only to certified networks, preventing any other network connections. The tablet can also be used in stealth mode for autonomous communication, turning off LTE and e-911 and radio frequency broadcasting. Another mode also allows you to power down the baseband modems and GPS, completely shielding the device from radio frequency signatures.
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition also features advanced situational awareness tools that enhance tactical teams’ decision-making capabilities. In particular, the tablet has a mode that supports viewing through night vision devices. The device is also optimized for use with applications such as the Android Team Awareness Kit and the Battlefield Assisted Trauma Distributed Observation Kit.
Like all Tactical Edition solutions, the new product meets industry standards, including the US National Security Agency's Commercial Solutions for Classified Components (CSfC) List. The hardware device can withstand drops from a height of up to 1.5 meters and is IP68 water and dust resistant, and also meets the MIL-STD-810H standard.
In addition, the tablet is equipped with a replaceable battery and a sensitive touchscreen for use in wet conditions, with gloves, or when paired with the included S-Pen stylus.
