Unlike last month, choosing what to watch in July will be a less difficult task, because the month turned out to be quieter in terms of the number of high-profile premieres. But some projects from this list can be considered the main events of the summer. We have prepared for you a selection of 6 films and 5 series in July that may interest you.

1. Insidious: The Red Door (July 6)

The new part of the Insidious horror franchise. To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh (Patrick Wilson) and college student Dalton (Ty Simpkins) must delve deeper than ever into the afterlife and face their family’s dark past and the endless horrors that lurk behind the red door.

Although the films of this genre do not differ in variety, they actually have quite a lot of fans. Therefore, we wish horror lovers a pleasant viewing and move on!

The premiere of the new part of the popular franchise will be available from July 7.

2. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (July 13)

Ethan Hunt and his team embark on a dangerous mission to track down a terrifying weapon that threatens humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Faced with a mysterious and powerful enemy, Ethan decides that nothing matters more than his mission — even the lives of the people he holds dearest.

In recent years, Tom Cruise has turned his acting career into his own stunt challenge. The actor is 61 years old, and he does not even think of getting involved with the support of computer graphics or an understudy. In previous films, he also held onto a plane that was taking off and underwater held a record amount of air, and during the filming of the sequel to Top Gun, he managed to learn how to fly a real fighter jet.

It is the personal approach to performing dangerous stunts that makes the films of the Mission Impossible series extremely exciting! However, we predict that according to current trends, the film will most likely end at the most interesting moment, because the finale of the adventures of Ethan Gant was divided into two parts. Dune, Spider-Man: Invasion, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug salute this approach.

The new Mission Impossible is definitely worth watching, as an example of really cool spy movies that only get better and more spectacular with each installment.

We are looking forward to July 13 to see Tom Cruise’s crazy new tricks with our own eyes.

3. Barbie (July 20)

Barbie doll, who lives in Barbie land, is kicked out of the city for not being perfect enough, too eccentric, and not like other models. The heroine goes on an adventure to the real world to get to know herself. What if Barbie lived among ordinary people and could she overcome the harsh reality of our world?

The film managed to become a powerful Internet meme a second after its announcement, and only a lazy person did not joke about the premiere on the same day as Oppenheimer. The phenomenon itself received the name “Barbenheimer” since two expected projects are released at the same time, which are diametrically opposed to each other. For objectivity, we suggest that you consider this film separately from the jokes, so as not to have false impressions before viewing.

Actually, Barbie is a potentially good movie. The director was Greta Gerwig, who proved herself to be a wonderful Lady Bird. And we haven’t seen such a successful selection of actors for a long time. Margot Robbie is Barbie and Ryan Gosling is Ken, period, perfect casting. There have already been examples of good movies based on toys, so we hope the authors will do everything right. In addition, the film is suitable for any group of viewers, you can go as a family, a couple or in a good company of friends.

You can watch the adventures of Barbie on July 20.

4. Oppenheimer (July 20)

The film tells the story of the “father of the atomic bomb”, J. Robert Oppenheimer, whose work at the Manhattan Project laboratory led to the invention of the first nuclear weapon during World War II.

Christopher Nolan is one of the most talented directors of our time. He shoots a real movie and gives the audience incredible emotions. The Batman trilogy changed superhero movies forever, and movies like Inception, Interstellar, and The Prestige will be talked about for years to come.

Oppenheimer is the first biopic in the director’s career and we have no doubt that we will get a 3-hour masterpiece with incredible actors. Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, Emily Blunt as his wife, will also feature such stars as Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, and Gary Oldman as Harry Truman himself. Nolan is known for his love of filming without CGI, so only practical effects were used to film the nuclear explosion of the Trinity bomb. The director already calls his new work one of the most difficult projects in his career.

You can watch a new film from one of the best directors of our time already on July 20.

5. Iron Butterflies (July 20)

In the summer of 2014, sunflower fields and coal mines in Eastern Ukraine turned into a crime scene with an area of 12 square kilometers. A multi-level investigation into the downing of flight MH17, in which shrapnel shaped like a butterfly was found in the body of the plane’s pilot, points to Russia as the state responsible for a war crime that still goes unpunished.

A documentary film produced by Ukraine and Germany about the events of July 17, 2014, when a passenger Boeing 777 was shot down. We recommend watching it to viewers who are interested in documentaries and want to learn more about this tragedy.

The premiere of the documentary film will take place on July 20.

6. Haunted Mansion (July 27)

Single mom Gabby and her 9-year-old son, trying to start a new life, move into a quaint mansion in New Orleans. This place turned out to be much stranger than they expected. Desperate for help, the family turns to a priest who, with the help of a team consisting of a widowed scientist, a paranormal expert, a psychic from the French Quarter, and a historian, helps them unravel the situation surrounding the estate.

The film has a powerful star cast: Jamie Lee Curtis, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Jared Leto, and Danny DeVito. Haunted Mansion is based on the attraction of the same name in Disneyland Park and can be a good reason to have a good time with the family watching the movie.

The premiere will take place on July 27.

Next, 4 novelties from the show’s segment and one sequel that cannot be ignored. We hope that everyone will be able to find something interesting for themselves.

1. The Horror of Dolores Roach (July 7)

Dolores Roach is released after an unjust 16-year sentence and returns to the now-gentrified Washington Heights neighborhood. The heroine is reunited with an old friend, Luis, who allows her to live and work as a masseuse in the basement under his shop. Soon enough, her stable life is threatened and she is once again forced to resort to extremes to survive.

The plot is based on the story of Sweeney Todd (the audience could watch Tim Burton’s film), so don’t be surprised by the presence of shock content with elements of cannibalism in the plot. If the story is correctly transferred to our time, then this can turn out to be an interesting black comedy with elements of horror, which will not leave the audience indifferent.

The series will be released on Amazon Prime Video on July 7.

2. Full Circle (July 13)

The synopsis of the series remains unclear at this time – a crime story in New York, which unfolds after the investigation of a failed kidnapping, revealing the ancient secrets of the entire city. The project will have all the hallmarks of a crime drama: intense phone calls, criminal investigations, car chases, stormy romances, cunning villains, money, danger, and death. The series was directed by Steven Soderbergh, the director of Ocean’s Eleven, and Zazie Beetz will play one of the main roles.

You can dive into the six-episode crime drama from HBO Max on July 13, when the first two episodes will be released.

3. Special Ops: Lioness (June 23)

A new series from Taylor Sheridan, the talented showrunner who serves as both head writer and the idea behind Mayor of Kingstown, Yellowstone, its prequel, 1923. Now he took up the Lioness. Many screenwriters can’t effectively lead even one project, but Sheridan produces series worth watching every year. The cast boasts Zoë Saldaña in the title role, as well as cameo appearances by Morgan Freeman and Nicole Kidman.

Lioness is based on a real-life CIA program and tells the story of Cruz Manuelos, a clumsy but passionate young Marine who is recruited into a CIA team to help destroy a terrorist organization from the inside.

We are waiting for a good spy thriller on July 23 on Paramount+.

4. Futurama (July 24)

We couldn’t resist and included this project in the list because Futurama returns to the screens after a decade after its second closure in 2013! Creators Matt Groening and David Cohen return to work on the series, as well as all the voice actors (including John DiMaggio, who voices Bender).

We will not remind you about the popularity and coolness of this series now, because a separate article will be released about it. It will be a really good return of the cult animated series, even though there are some fears due to the announced series with a parody of the coronavirus because Futurama has never been distinguished by good work with topical humor. But we hope that in this case, the failed episodes will be accompanied by series similar in spirit to episodes about Seymour’s dog or Fry’s clover.

I wonder if there will be another “final ending” of the project at the end of the season. We will find out on July 24 on the Hulu platform, where the first episode of the 10 announced will be released.

5. Twisted Metal (July 27)

A biker gets a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. He will face wild marauders driving destructive vehicles and other dangers of the open roads, including a crazy clown driving the familiar ice cream truck.

This is an adaptation of the popular Twisted Metal game series for PlayStation consoles. The original games were liked for their hurricane gameplay, but the trailers do not yet show this epicness.

This year, another Sony intellectual property, The Last of Us, received a film adaptation that satisfied fans and received positive reviews. It was already a very cinematic game, so the plot was perfectly adapted for the series, and Twisted Metal is a race for survival with a primitive plot, but with cool characters.

One of them is the psychopathic clown Sweet Tooth. Even with a simple plot, you can make something cool, the main thing is to keep the drive of the original and not dilute the potential of the characters. Unlike the badass clown Sweet Tooth, Anthony Mackie seems redundant in the show so far, but we’re always happy to be wrong.

The series will also be a great gift for fans of the original series of games, the last part of which was released as far back as 2012 on the PlayStation 3. Perhaps, if the project receives good views and reviews, Sony will release a new part in a few years.

All ten 30-minute episodes will premiere on the Peacock streaming service on July 27.
