Next month, the European Union will announce the results of an antitrust investigation into Apple and Meta. This was announced by the head of the competition authority Teresa Ribera, Reuters reports.

Ribera says that the European Union will not back down from its decision to investigate American companies, despite the fact that relations with the United States have deteriorated since Donald Trump came to power.

Both companies have been in the EU' s crosshairs since March last year and could face heavy fines of up to 10% of their global annual turnover if found to have violated the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

"We need to stick to our strengths and principles," Ribera says. "We need to be flexible but we cannot transact on human rights nor are we going to transact on the unity of Europe, and we are not going to transact on democracy and values."

The social network X, owned by one of Trump's closest advisers, Elon Musk, is also under investigation. But Teresa Ribera says that the issue is not who owns the company, but that it is under scrutiny for violating EU rules on illegal content.

As a reminder, Meta recently announced that it is ready to engage Trump in the fight against the European Union's digital rules.
