Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was postponed to February 14, 2025, has changed its release date again – now the game will be released on March 20. According to journalist Jason Schreier, Ubisoft explains the new postponement by looking for “various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders.”

In September 2024, Ubisoft claimed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows was already fully finished. However, in a new statement posted on social media, the developers said that they needed a few extra weeks to make changes based on player feedback.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a press statement that the company “has several potential avenues to extract value from Ubisoft’s assets and franchises.” Probably, in this way, the co-founder of the French studio hints that Assassin’s Creed Shadows can play a key role in influencing the company’s sales.
The year 2024 turned out to be quite unstable for Ubisoft. In September, the board of directors launched an investigation into the company’s internal problems. Ubisoft also received several lawsuits, including for transferring Meta player data and shutting down The Crew servers. The company’s revenues also fell during the year, and its shares dropped to the level of 2014 due to the failure of Star Wars Outlaws.
In order to get out of the predicament, the Guillemot family, which founded the French game maker, began discussing the possibility of buying the company together with the Chinese giant Tencent. The decision seems to have been made, but Tencent is hesitant to help because it wants to have a greater influence on Ubisoft.
As a reminder, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will take players to feudal Japan of the 16th century. There will be two characters to choose from: the dark-skinned samurai Yasuke, who caused a lot of outrage, and the skilled shinobi Naoe. It is expected that the series will return to its roots even more and place a strong emphasis on stealth. If Ubisoft doesn’t postpone the game any longer, it will be released on March 20 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
